An Italian guy saw his lifestyles savings cross up in smoke after stashing them in a chimney.

The trove caught alight when his wife lit a hearth as a result of she had no thought it was getting used to hide £18,000 in executive bonds.

The unidentified man concocted the plan because he was involved in burglars breaking into his Rome apartment.

A stash of papers price 20,000 Euros were hidden deep within the shaft – however the man forgot to inform any person else in the area where they have been.

He told Il Messagero newspaper: ‘When I saw the flames I just about passed out.
