Mum’s shares her anguish watching ‘beautiful’ toddler swept away by powerful floodwaters

A mum of a woman who used to be swept away via floodwaters has informed of the devastating moment she lost her daughter.

Ella Collins, from Hawke’s Bay in New Zealand, attempted to evacuate her flooded space with husband Jack and daughters Imogen, four, and Ivy, two.

But Cyclone Gabrielle, which wreaked destruction around the united states and led to New Zealand declaring a state of emergency, used to be too robust and hampered their break out efforts.

Ella advised Stuff: ‘The water simply got here up behind me… and it just lifted Ivy off my shoulders and i went underneath the water. While I came up I May simply see her floating away. I misplaced her.’

With the youngsters on their shoulders, the parents waded during the powerful waters to achieve a neighbour’s belongings.

Jack managed to hold onto Imogen via clinging to a hedge, but Ella felt the water hit her from behind and Ivy was once lifted from her shoulders because the pair become submerged.

When she resurfaced, she saw Ivy floating away, and the current was once too rapid for her husband to have the opportunity to succeed in her.
